The mission of Aid to Inmate mothers is to provide services to Alabamas incarcerated women with an emphasis on enhancing personal growth and strengthening the bonds between inmate mothers and their children.
Programs include:
Monthly Visitation - The monthly visitation program gives children without means of transportation a chance to visit their mothers in prison.
Storybook Project - The program provides comfort to children each month by offering them a tape recording of their mothers reading books.
Prison Classes - These classes are open to all women in the prisons served and range from 8-12 weeks long. A professional facilitator from the community teaches each class, and participants receive certificates upon completion.
Project Reconnect - The program prepares the women for release and helps them successfully transition back into the community.
Pack a Purse - Purchase or find a gently used a purse, tote, or backpack and fill it with any of the following items:
Toiletry Itemsfull size items (comb/brush, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, lotions, feminine products, shampoo/conditioner, hair accessories)New undergarments -bras, panties socks, (please include plus sizes)Gift cards (Wai-Mart, Target, CVS, Walgreens)Pick-me-up Items (make-up, gift card to restaurant/movie theater)Monetary donations are accepted-check or Money order made payable to: Aid to Inmate MothersPajamas (include womens plus sizes)Packages will be distributed to women once they leave prison.
Family Outreach - AIM helps caregivers of children of incarcerated mothers by offering much-needed financial relief, as well as providing a strong support system.
GENESIS Home - The GENESIS House is a transitional home that provides women who have just left prison with an independent living environment for at least 12 months.
